about

Despite the short duration clocking only at 17 minutes, we have to take this 8 tracks album into consideration. The approach of the band is rough, direct, with no frills. In fact they call it "RUDE ROCK".

They play stoner rock as a garage or punk could do, "Slow Rider". Immediacy and punch are their guidelines since the catchy "Dig Yo!" with a raw vibe, as a knife that cuts the desert sand. "Funny Pusher" and "Disco Jerk" are little more articulated and bear inside them an attitude and a senseof twisted humor, like if they wanted to split in front of conventional rock. Also the cover artwork makes us think about a funny representation of rock, something different from the usuals clichès. Sumolovers are able to craft also a sort of ballad with a dull and sexy voice, slightly resembling the like of Debbie Harry or Chrissie Hynde on acid. The singer is bold on melodies that capture at the first listening as the ones of "Easy Money Maker" and "Brand New".

It feels like these guys from Sardinia listened to a lot of English new wave and punk and put them in the stoner cauldron to make their own recipe. In these songs there's some urgency and a teenage angst, the will to play free without limitation of generes. This is the reason why this record sounds fresh and compelling.

SUMOLOVERS Sardinia, Italy

(ENG)
SUMOLOVERS: not a band, not a project either. It's a chaotic entity, simplistic and disorganised, born to combat the dominant arrogance of the current music scene. Taking strength from their ignorance they push into a chasm the minds of the weakest listeners. "Like a sweaty fatman wearing only his pants, Sumolovers are ready to come rushing at you." ... more
